Features
Freeais.org is a Java based application to receive AIS information from vessels.
Freeais.org is a software for:
You do not know where to find your vessel? No problem, just search it!
calibrate “raw” card material with our mercator or approximisation algorithms
monitor vessels with a radar screen around your antenna location or home zone
it is possible to define an alerting zone within your charts or projection and so that you are notified if some vessels are in your alert ing zone
Within our user interface or via the Google Earth export it is possible to view details about a certain vessel like speed, size, navigation state etc.
you can attach a receiver for example SR162 to the serial port of your PC and with an apppropriate antenna you are able to decode AIS data with freeais.org
received data can not only be presented within our application, it is also possible to view obtained data within Google Earth.
Freeais.org provides an own mechanism for exchanging data with other stations via a central server.
If you already own a shipplotter license you can also import data from a shipplotter server into our application.
As freeais.org was written in Java and we kept multiplatform support in mind from the very first beginning, their should be no problem to run freeais.org on Windows and Linux. MacOSX should also work but we have not been able to test this so far due to the lack of some Apple hardware :-(.
Yes freeais.org comes to you as open source and free of charge. Freeais.org was designed to be a long lifecycle software, which means that it should be no problem to extend it to users needs. Freeais.org will be licensed under the terms of GNU General Public License v3 please visit Frequently Asked Questions about the GNU GPL to learn more.
